Our Story

How we met

She says:

We actually went to the same primary school but Jon claims not to remember me. He was a couple of years older so I was a bit scared of him anyway. We actually didn't meet properly until university. We both went to Sydney uni, though on opposite sides of the campus. My friend was at one of the Colleges and took me along to one of their informals, which was a really fun night and was where I met Jon. I wasn't sure if he was interested in me but quickly realised he must be when he called the next day! We had coffee in one of our free periods. Actually I think he might have skipped a class for it but I am glad he did as we have been together ever since! When I went backpacking, he initially said he would stay here but after about a three week break he changed his mind and came over too!! We had a great year. It kind of proved to us that we could happily be together 24/7.

The proposal

He says:

I had been planning the proposal for ages, and I thought the weekend away would be the perfect time. I'd been up to the Hunter a few times before so knew exactly where I wanted to ask Elle. It was hard to get everything packed into the backpack without her noticing and I was sure she knew exactly what was going on when I said I wanted to go for a walk before going out! I was hoping she'd go along with it!

It was the perfect evening for it I couldn't have asked for better weather and even the wildlife co-operated for some reasons there were no flies and when we stopped, some horses appeared down by the dam. Talk about strategic placement. That kind of calmed me down a bit, I think, as it was like it was meant to be.

The ring felt like it was burning a hole in my pocket so I couldn't wait to ask her!! The sunset was just starting when I got the picnic rug out and poured us some champagne. I got onto one knee and asked if she would marry me - I thought I might actually pass out while I waited for her answer! To my great relief she said yes!!
